The PLN 105 million (EUR 24.5 million, USD 28 million) project, designed by leading Polish studio JEMS Architects, is due for completion in 2023, Poland’s noizz.pl online news service has reported.

The new museum, dubbed Planet Lem, will be housed in a redeveloped historic building that was once a salt warehouse, according to the website.

The Planet Lem Literature and Language Centre will contain a permanent multimedia exhibition focusing on some of the key issues addressed by the writer, such as technological progress, evolution and the limitations of human knowledge, noizz.pl reported.

There will also be an auditorium for 400, a bookstore, a media library, a reading room and co-working space.

Lem died in 2006 in Kraków at the age of 85. His books dealt with the future of planet Earth and the human species and have been translated into more than 40 languages.

His work, which also included short stories and philosophical essays, has inspired a number of films. Solaris, a 2002 movie featuring George Clooney, was based on Lem's 1961 book of the same title.

His other acclaimed books include Return from the Stars, Tales of Pirx the Pilot, The Cyberiad and The Chain of Chance.
