Poles are increasingly taking winter vacations, heading off for the ski slopes or for sunnier climes abroad, according to a report.

The number of Poles planning skiing trips during this year’s school winter break was over 5 percent higher than last season, said Ewa Kubaczyk of the Polish Chamber of Tourism.

"It’s estimated that 10 percent of Poles go skiing,” she was cited as saying by public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.

Meanwhile, clients using the services of travel agencies are even keener on winter vacations to warm destinations such as the Canaries, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Thailand, IAR reported.

Travel agents have also noted that Poles are willing to splash out more on their holidays every year, and at the same time expect higher standards, IAR added.
