The series, called 1983, is directed by Polish director and Academy Award nominee Agnieszka Holland and tells an alternate version of Polish Cold-war history.
According to Netflix’s website, the series features Polish actors Robert Więckiewicz and Maciej Musiał as a disgraced police investigator and an idealistic law student “who stumble upon a conspiracy that changed the course of the nation and kept the Iron Curtain standing.”
Holland told Poland’s PAP news agency that the series is a dystopian thriller with political intrigue.
Holland is not new to Netflix productions, having directed a number of episodes of the hit show House of Cards.
