Polish cinematographer Witold Sobociński dies at 89

Veteran Polish cinematographer Witold Sobociński has died at the age of 89.

The news of his passing was announced on Monday by the National Film School in the central city of Łódź where Sobociński was a lecturer.

During his long career as a cinematographer, Sobociński worked with many well-known film directors, including Roman Polanski (Pirates and Frantic), Andrzej Wajda (The Wedding) and Jerzy Skolimowski (Hands Up and Torrents of Spring).

He won multiple film awards from festivals and organisations including the American Society of Cinematographers.

Sobociński was a graduate of the Cinematography Department of the National Film School in Łódź.
