Piłsudski bust in Brussels to mark Polish independence centenary

A bust of Marshal Józef Piłsudski, a statesman known as the architect of Poland's independence, is to be unveiled in Brussels next week.

Organised by Poland's Institute of National Remembrance, the bust will stand outside the Polish embassy in Brussels in time for the culmination of centenary of independence celebrations on November 11.
Alongside the unveiling on November 8, a lights show and a short film on Polish history will "show our history through pictures and music," Polish Ambassador to Belgium Artur Orzechowski told Polish Radio.
November 11, 1918, saw the signing of an armistice to end WWI which would pave the way for Poland returning to the map of Europe after more than 120 years of partitions and foreign rule.
On that same day 100 years ago, Piłsudski arrived in Warsaw after being held prisoner in Germany during World War I and announced Polish independence. (vb/pk)
