The three Polish productions are Paweł Pawlikowski’s Cold War (winner of the award for best director at the Cannes festival), Małgorzata Szumowska’s Mug (Silver Bear winner at the Berlin Festival), and Fugue by up-and-coming director Agnieszka Smoczyńska.

A shortlist of nominees will be announced on November 10 at the Seville European Film Festival in Spain. The winners will be presented in Seville on December 15.

Last year, Polish filmmakers won European Film Awards in three categories: for Best Documentary (Anna Zamecka's Communion), for Best Animated Feature Film (Loving Vincent, directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman) and for Best Costume Designer (Katarzyna Lewińska for Spoor).
