Polish music showcased at Bremen jazz trade fair

Poland’s jazz scene is among the highlights of the Jazzahead! trade fair-cum-festival opening in Bremen, Germany, on Friday.

The annual trade fair is the largest of its kind in the world. Poland is the partner country of this year’s event.
“This will be a display of Polish jazz,” said the head of the Warsaw-based Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Krzysztof Olendzki, adding that more than 15 Polish jazz musicians and bands were set to perform at the event.
“This is not just a concert but also an opportunity to present the performing artists to promoters of art, curators and critics from across the world,” Olendzki said.
A show scheduled for April 19 and billed as “Polish Night” will feature musicians of international acclaim such as the Marcin Wasilewski Trio, the Atom String Quartet and the Power of the Horns project, alongside up-and-coming performers such as the High Definition Quartet and Monika Borzym.
On April 20, the festival’s gala concert will showcase a lineup of Polish jazz greats, among them singer Anna Maria Jopek, pianist Leszek Możdżer and the Maciej Obara Quartet.
World-famous Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stańko is also set to perform at Jazzahead!, which winds up on April 22. (aba/gs)
