The drama, the director’s fiction debut, tells the story of Polish expat Adam who returns to his native village in Poland for Christmas. The night takes an unexpected turn after the main character reveals his true intentions for coming home to his family.
The film also won a people’s choice award, beating Agnieszka Holland and Kasia Adamik’s Spoor (Pokot) and Dorota Kobieta and Hugh Welchman’s Loving Vincent.
To mark the awards’ 20th year, a poll was held for the best Polish film of the last two decades. The special prize was awarded to Roman Polanski’s Oscar-winning film The Pianist.
The awards gala was held at the Teatr Polski theatre in Warsaw. (vb)
