Traffic offenders caught by police in Poland can now pay their fines instantly using credit cards or cell phones.

Such payments have been made possible by new regulations that took effect on Thursday under which traffic police nationwide will ultimately be equipped with around 2,000 mobile terminals.
The decision to equip police cars with such terminals is part of efforts to promote non-cash payments in Poland’s public administration as a whole, officials have said.
Anyone who violates traffic regulations and is given a ticket will be able to make their payments on the spot, Antoni Rzeczkowski from the National Police Headquarters told Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.
Poland’s former Interior Minister Mariusz Błaszczak said last year that on-the-spot credit card payment of fines would make police work easier.
“Such a solution is absolutely justified,” Błaszczak said in May, adding that it was sometimes problematic for foreigners to pay for their traffic infringements.
Under previous regulations, locals were given tickets to pay within a set period, while non-Polish nationals were required to pay in cash.
