The zoo wants durable items for large, strong animals such as polar bears, brown bears, chimpanzees, gorillas, jaguars, lions and tigers.

It is seeking baskets, buckets, cones, fire hoses, balls and large water bottles to help animals stay alert and in shape.

All donated items should be clean, with no grease or oil residue. The zoo does not want containers which were used to store toxic or corrosive substances and which may still have traces of chemicals.

Some of the donated items will be used as toys -- polar bears, for example, love to play with barrels -- while others will be used to create platforms on which animals can walk.
