Under the proposed rules, no one under 18 will be able to use sun beds in such facilities unless on a doctor’s advice.
Medical experts have been pressing for years for a ban, arguing that frequenting solariums increases the risk of skin cancer.
Exposure to artificial ultraviolet radiation, which in solariums is 10 times higher than that from natural light, leads to irreversible skin damage, aging and cancer, with children and adolescents especially at risk.
Cancer specialists have been reporting a rise in malignant melanoma for years.
