As tourists increasingly set out on adventures armed with a smartphone rather than a map and guidebook, the Mazovia region in central Poland has prepared an app for visitors to the area.

Called Play Mazovia! the app allows users to browse through suggested ways to actively spend time in the area.

Available in both Polish and English language versions, the app requires an internet connection and GPS.

It includes information about a range of attractions from traditional museums to modern galleries, laidback agro-tourism farms and luxury resorts, castles, palaces, parks, and a calendar of sporting and cultural events.

The province’s local government authority promises there is something for people of all ages, especially encouraging family trips to the area.

The app is free and does not require users to log on, but it also includes an educational game in which registered users can collect points for visiting and performing set tasks at regional locations and events. (vb/pk)
