The Catholic Mass will be held at Warsaw's Temple of Divine Providence, the recently opened national pantheon.

"Ryszard Kaczorowski is the pride of our country and an example of extraordinary patriotism," said Gniewomir Rokosz-Kuczyński, General Director of the Institute for Republic and Local Government Traditions.

Kaczorowski dedicated his life to serving the Polish government-in-exile, he added.

Poland’s government-in-exile functioned mainly in London during World War II, remaining there after a communist regime was installed in Poland.

Kaczorowski returned the presidential insignia to Poland during a ceremony at the Royal Castle in Warsaw in 1990, following the end of the communist era.

Kaczorowski died with former Polish President Lech Kaczyński and 94 others on board a presidential plane which on 10 April 2010 crashed when trying to land at the Smolensk military airport in western Russia. (vb/pk)
