Called the "Lemology Congress," the event's programme includes lectures, film screenings, meetings with authors and scientists and a jazz concert featuring pieces inspired by Lem's work.
Lem died in 2006, aged 85. His books dealt with the future of planet Earth and the human species and were translated into more than 40 languages.
His work inspired a number of films. 'Solaris', a 2002 movie featuring George Clooney, was based on Lem's 1961 book of the same name. (vb/pk)
