16 films to compete for Golden Lion at Gdynia Film Festival

Sixteen movies out of 45 entries have been selected for the main competition at the Gdynia Film Festival in northern Poland, the organizers have announced.

The main competition is a selection of the most interesting Polish movie premiers, debuts and movies that received awards at major international film festivals.

The films are vying for the Golden Lion statuette and PLN 100,000 (EUR 22,800/USD 25,000) awarded by an international jury, and for the Silver Lions and PLN 50,000 prizes. This year, there are seven debuts in the main competition.

There are also various individual award categories at the Gdynia festival, including for top Director, Screenplay, Directing Debut or Second Film Directed, Best Actress, Best Actor, Professional Acting Debut, Cinematography, Music and Art Direction.

The Gdynia Film Festival will take place 19-24 September. (mol/pk)
