The show draws on photographs from the private collection of his widow, Maria Kieślowski, complemented by his ruminations on life and art.

It was organised by the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the European Union in Brussels, together with the regional office of Lower Silesia.

Kieślowski won widespread acclaim for his television series 'The Decalogue' (1989), inspired by the Ten Commandments, and shot in Warsaw. Two of the episodes were expanded into full-length features: 'A Short Film About Killing' and 'A Short Film About Love'. The former won the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, among other awards, while the latter won the Special Jury Prize at the San Sebastian Festival.

The director went on to make a trilogy inspired by the three colours of the French flag and the rallying cry of the French Revolution: liberty, equality and fraternity.

We have tried to portray Kieślowski in all his complexity,” commented Ewa Haczyk from Poland's Permanent Representation in Brussels.

What he was like as a man,” she added. (nh/pk)
