Award-winning Polish director to tackle children's home scandal

Director Borys Lankosz is to helm a film about a scandal at a Polish children's home that saw a nun jailed for physically and psychologically abusing children in her care.

Lankosz will co-write the screenplay with journalist Justyna Kopińska, who received the European Press Prize last week, an award that has been dubbed 'The European Pulitzer'.
The film will expore the legacy of the former Special Education Centre of the Sisters of St. Borromeo in Zabrze, Silesia.
A children's home for sick and destitute children, it was headed by Sister Bernadette, Agnieszka F. in court documents (surname withheld under Polish privacy laws). She worked at the centre from 1991 to 2007.
Kopińska has said that actress Agata Buzek would be her ideal choice for the role of Sister Bernadette.
Buzek worked with Lankosz on 'Reverse', the award-winning movie that made his name in 2009. The film is a black comedy set in the Stalinist era that sees a secret police agent seduce a young Varsovian lady.
His second feature was 'A Grain of Truth' (2015), a thriller co-written with Zygmunt Miłoszewski, on whose book the film was based. (nh)
