During a gala at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Vilnius, Lupa was awarded for his staging of the “Hero’s Square”, a play by German playwright, Thomas Bernhard (1931-1989).

It was staged in the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre last year.

The director of the theatre, Audronis Liuga called Lupa “a great artist”, adding that the Lithuanian theatre “needed Lupa to achieve katharsis”, and described Lupa’s play as “inspirational and fresh”.

Polish audiences will be able to see the play during the Warsaw Theatre Meeting on 14-16 April. Later, Krystian Lupa will stage the drama in China. (tf/rg)
