Archaeologists examining a site on Wiejska Street, close to the Parliament building in Warsaw, have come across pre-World War Two porcelain, silverware and crystal glassware.

The collection includes over a hundred items. Most of them bear the Rosenthal, Thomas Bavaria and Shumann Bavaria brand marks.
Andrzej Jaskuła, a member of the archaeological team, told Polish Radio that he was greatly impressed by the find.

“During the war someone apparently hid all the things in the cellar of an apartment building, wrapping them in old newspapers,” Jaskuła said.
The house was levelled to the ground but the entire collection, covered in debris, has been miraculously left almost intact.
