Director Agnieszka Smoczyńska's 'The Lure' (Córki Dancingu) will compete in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition, a section in which 12 “emerging filmmaking talents around the world offer fresh perspectives and inventive styles.”
The Polish movie tells the unlikely story of two mermaid sisters who find work performing in a nightclub, only to find that fate presents them with painful choices when one of the siblings falls in love with a young man.
Smoczyńska won the award for Best Debut during September's Gdynia Film Festival, the key annual showcase of new Polish movies.
Meanwhile, Michał Marczuk's 'All These Sleepless Nights' has been selected for the World Cinema Documentary Competition.
His film shot on the streets of Warsaw, will have its world premiere at the festiva and involves a search for answers to some of life's fundamental questions.
Some 4,081 feature films were submitted for competition, including 1,972 from the U.S. and 2,109 overseas. (nh/rk)
