Skolimowski's movie outdid 13 other films in the main competition, including Lenny Abrahamson's 'The Room' and Julio Hernández Cordón's 'I Promise you Anarchy.'

'11 Minutes', which was shot in Warsaw, weaves together incidents in the lives of several disparate characters whose paths are destined to cross.

The thriller is veteran director Skolimowski's first outing since 2010's 'Essential Killing', and it is Poland's official candidate for the forthcoming Oscars.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre award for Best Film goes to the movie deemed “the most outstanding for adding something innovative to the cinematic language.”

Short film 'Mother Earth' explores the conflict between a father and son, with the latter trying to live up to the former's expectations.

Thanks to winning the Best Short Film award, 'Mother Earth' will be distributed by Portuguese company Leopardo Filmes. (nh)
