Over 500 people have descended on a former Soviet military airport in north western Poland for a live action role-playing game (LARP) with a sci-fi theme.

The OldTown festival, which is being held in Kluczewo, Stargard Szczeciński, bills itself as “the biggest post-apocalyptic festival in Europe.”

According to the premise of the event, the year is 2115, and the world has been largely annihilated by a nuclear explosion.

Those that have survived have several challenges to take on this week, with a 72-hour LARP session currently underway.

Our task is to find a man in a white coat,” revealed a survivor called Scourge, in a conversation with Radio Szczecin.

We came here a group of nomads,” he added.

He is our father, he freed us from slavery and suddenly disappeared.”

Contestants are sporting an array of fantastical costumes that could hold their own with the concoctions of top Hollywood costume designers.

The 72-hour LARP game finishes on Thursday, but the festival continues until 26 July. (nh)
