The Polish-Danish-French co-production focuses on John, a young man who is trying to reassimilate after serving time behind bars for the murder of his girlfriend.
Shot by Polish cinematographer Łukasz Żal, the movie is up against 18 other works from around the globe.
The Directors Fortnight section has been held since 1969, and 1623 feature films were submitted this year.
‘The Here After’ is von Horn’s first full-length feature, and this year’s final selection for the Directors Fortnight has been applauded as ''an ideal balance of established auteurs as well as emerging talents,’’ by US film source Variety.
Von Horn studied at the Łódż Film School, alma mater of many of Poland’s finest film-makers, including Andrzej Wajda, Roman Polański, as well as noted names from the new generation such as Jan Komasa and Borys Lankosz.
The 68th Cannes Film Festival begins on 14 May, running until 23 May. (nh)
