Filming of the Polish-French-German-Belgian co-production will begin in March, with French director Marie Noelle calling the shots.

The drama, which has been co-written by Noelle, begins with the future Nobel Prize-winner's arrival in Paris from Warsaw in 1891. The Polish prodigy goes on to make pioneering breakthroughs in the sphere of radioactivity.

Besides Gruszka, who recently played the title role in Marcin Krzyształowicz's 'Lady from the Kindergarten' (Pani z Przedszkola), several other Poles are taking part in the production.

Award-winning cinematographer Artur Reinhart ('A Time to Die','Venice') has been hired, as has veteran actor Daniel Olbrychski. The scientist's older sister Bronisława is being played by Izabela Kuna.

Marie Noelle's last silver screen project was 'Ludwig II,' a biopic of the so-called 'mad king of Bavaria', which Noelle co-directed with her husband Peter Sehr.

Hungarian director Márta Mészáros was set to make another biopic about the Polish scientist in 2012, with Krystyna Janda in the lead role. However, the project fell by the wayside. (nh)
