Poles rustle up Rome's largest mural

Przemek Blejzyk and Mateusz Gapski, who work under the pseudonyms Bezt and Sainer, took one week to complete their Roman giant.

The mural, which adorns an eight-floor apartment block, depicts a moustachioed man emerging from a dustbin with a cup of coffee.

According to the artists, they chose this motif as when they first came to Rome, they were constantly offered coffee by locals.

Blejzyk and Gapski are part of the so-called Etam Cru, a group renowned for street art both in Poland and further afield. The collective has worked in Norway (pictured), Bulgaria, Germany, Russia, Portugal and the USA .

The Roman mural was carried out as out under the auspices of a municipal programme aimed at livening some of the city's outlying districts.

Although Etam Cru's concoction is rather more mischievous than Michelangelo's frescoes for the Sistine Chapel, the coffee-toting giant has been enthusiastically recieved by residents and the local press. (nh)
