The tour took in concerts at the Oriental Art Center in Shanghai and the Beijing Concert Hall.

In addition to works by Tchaikovsky, Dvorak, Brahms and Bizet, the programme included Polish music by Chopin, Kilar and the young composer Janusz Bielecki, as well as a piece by Guan Xia, one of the most prominent contemporary Chinese composers.

In an interview for the Polish Press Agency, the Director of the Baltic Philharmonic Roman Perucki described the tour as a milestone in the ensemble’s almost seventy year-long history.

“In artistic terms, it was a very successful experience,” he said.

“The orchestra has demonstrated high-calibre skills and proved to be an excellent ambassador of not only the Pomeranian region but of Polish culture as a whole’.

At the beginning of 2016 the Baltic Philharmonic is to go on a two-month tour of the United States organized by Columbia Records. (mk/nh)
