Dawn of the Vampires (Swit Wampirow) is being billed as a bona fide horror movie, with the genre barely explored by Polish directors to date.
“A lot of people in Poland are waiting for this movie as it's something new,” producer Piotr Zielinski told the Gazeta Wyborcza daily.
Zielinski assured that the film will not be a parody of the genre, and that it aims at being genuinely frightening.
He claimed Dawn of the Vampires will be “a breath of fresh air in Polish cinema given that comedies have ruled the roost for many years.”
The film, which has been directed by Dominik Matwiejczyk, follows two young backpackers from Wroclaw who go for a weekend away in the Lower Silesian countryside.
However, it soon transpires that they face more than they had bargained for.
Dawn of the Vampires goes on general release on 10 January. (nh)
