Gaza images win Polish Press Agency prize

A series of photographs of the Gaza Strip taken by photographer Jacek Turczyk have won the Polish Press Agency's Photojournalism Prize.

The black and white images provide a striking portrait of life in the troubled region, which has been governed by Palestinian organization Hamas since 2007, following Israel's withdrawal in 2005.
Besides a trophy, Jacek Turczyk was awarded a sum of 20,000 zloty (4770 euro).
Turczyk's prize, as well as others for written and audio reports, were awarded on the 95th anniversary of the state-owned Polish Press Agency (PAP).
The institution was founded in 1918, when Poland re-emerged as an independent state following the First World War. (nh/pg)
