Close to half a million brave heatwave at Woodstock Festival

Around 450,000 rock fans have crammed into the site of the 19th Woodstock festival near Kostrzyn nad Odrą on the Polish-German border for the four-day rock fest.

In a heatwave bringing temperatures up to around 35 degrees Celsius, the American thrash-metal band Anthrax headlined on the main stage on Friday night, supported by Serbian musician Emir Kusturica and Polish singer-songwriter Maria Peszek.
Police report 16 incidents of petty theft and 46 cases of drug possession during the first two days of the festival.
British band Kaiser Chiefs headline Saturday on the final night of Woodstock, which began on Thursday. (pg)
