Warsaw hosts Jewish Motifs Film Festival

In the main competition, directors will be competing for the Golden Warsaw Phoenix Award, a prize funded by the city under the patronage of Mayor Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz.

Among the films in the running for prizes this year are Polish movie Aftermath, Germany's Batman at the Checkpoint, and American-Israeli co-production The Territory.

All screenings are free of charge and they will be held at Kino Muranow, which is located on the territory of the city's former Jewish district.

Guest of honour is 90-year-old Polish-Jewish writer and World War II veteran Jozef Hen, whose works have been translated into Czech, English, German, French and Russian.

A number of discussions will be held, including "Is evil is hereditary? How children cope with the Nazi heritage of their fathers?” (25 April).

The 9th International Jewish Motifs Film Festival runs until 28 April. (nh)
