Wieliczka Salt Mine opens for new season

The Wieliczka Salt Mine near Krakow has been opened with two new chambers for the summer tourist season by deputy prime minister Janusz Piechociński.

“This is a diamond in Poland's treasures,” Piechociński, who is also economy minister, said Friday as he toured the new chambers, named Witos and Gwarków.
The Witos chamber is 125 metres under ground at the historic salt mine - a major tourist attraction in southern Poland, to which 1.1 million visited in 2012 – will be devoted to inspiring the interests of children and the young.
