"It's really nice for us knowing that this announcement about our Coke Live Festival star will make so many music fans across Poland happy,” enthused event organiser Mikolaj Ziolkowski on the festival's official web site.

Fronted by flamboyantly attired singer Florence Welch, the band has become a global phenomenon since the release of debut album Lungs.

The band's 2011 follow-up Ceremonials went platinum in several countries, with Rolling Stone magazine concluding in its review that “Florence and the Machine are a true band, who channel garage-rock camaraderie into a huge, lashing sound more fit for an Olympian mountain peak than a garage.”

The Coke Live Festival was launched in Krakow in 2006. Previous guests have included Jay-Z, The Prodigy, The Killers, Muse, Placebo and Snoop Dogg.

This year's edition will take place on the grounds of the city's Aviation Museum from 9-10 August.

More guests are due to be announced over the coming weeks. (nh)
