According to graphic designer Jerzy Osiennik, who hails from Bialystok in north east Poland, the logo drew inspiration from the roof-line of Wroclaw's Town Hall, the city's coat of arms, and the famed logo of the Solidarity trade union.

“I hope that the logo will inspire associations with Polish tolerance, openness and freedom,” Osiennik said at a press conference in Wroclaw on Monday, as cited by the Polish Press Agency (PAP).
Close to 600 designs were submitted, and jury members included representatives from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw.
The final programme for the year-long event will be revealed in 2015. (nh)
