Polish success at Grammy awards

Producer Pawel Sek celebrated two Grammy wins for the band FUN at the award ceremony in Los Angeles, while conductor Antoni Wit took a classical music prize.

FUN won the Song of the Year award for their track “We are Young”, while also picking up the prize for Best Newcomer.

Sek, who grew up in the city of Przemysl, south east Poland, has produced several top drawer artists in recent years, including Pink, Kanye West and Taylor Swift.

Meanwhile, conductor Antoni Wit and producers Aleksandra Nagorko and Andrzej Sasin won Best Classical Compendium for Penderecki: Fonogrammi; Horn Concerto; Partita; The Awakening Of Jacob; Anaklasis, a new recording of the Polish composer's work with the Warsaw-based National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.

British band Mumford and Sons won the Album of the Year award for their latest effort Babel.

Gotye scooped the parallel prize for Record of the Year, for Somebody That I Used to Know, and Drake walked away with the gong for Best Rap Album, for Take Care.

The 55th Grammy Awards ceremony was held at LA's Staples centre and was hosted by hip hop veteran LL Cool J.

Performers included Justin Timberlake, Elton John and Jack White.

There was also a special tribute to reggae legend Bob Marley, with performances by the artist's son Ziggy and Sting. (nh)
