“It was not easy to convince the authorities that our building will fit the place,” architect Krzysztof Ingarden told our reporter Nick Hodge.

“It took a lot of time to show and prove that our building – even though it is very contemporary – is at the same time careful about history, that it creates some kind of dialogue with history,” he says.
The building has already been named the winner of Krakow's annual Janusz Bodganowski Award, which is picked by a panel of experts under the auspices of the Gazeta Wyborcza daily. Architectural critic Dawid Hajok explains why the Malopolska Garden of Arts deserved to win the 2012 edition.
The Malopolska Garden of Arts' many functions include providing a supplementary stage for Krakow's Juliusz Slowacki Theatre, as well as a mediatheque for the Malopolska Voivodeship Library.
