According to the film-maker, talks concerning Depardieu's role in the film are in the final phase.
“I wrote this role for him, with his physicality and talent in mind,” Kolski said in an interview with Polish Radio.
“So in a sense, the script is dedicated to him,” the director added.
“He has read the script, and he liked it very much,” Kolski said.
The Polish director noted that he is not in the least bit nervous of working with larger than life performers.
“I love working with difficult actors,” Kolski reflected.
“The difficult actor asks questions and makes demands of the director,” he said.
Kolski did not expand on the subject matter of the film, only revealing that the project is titled Airam, explaining that this is Maria spelt backwards.
The director's latest film, To Kill a Beaver, was a hit at the 47th International Karlovy Vary Film Festival this month, with leading man Eryk Lubos picking up the award for best actor.
It was Kolski's first outing since 2010's Venice, which followed the fate of a Polish landowning family during World War II, winning a number of awards on the festival circuit. (nh)
