According to Polish public broadcaster TVP, Gauck’s visit will take place on 26-27 March.
The German Federal Assembly elected the former pastor and anti-communist activist with 991 votes out of the 1232 members present at Sunday’s ballot.
The announcement of his election was made jointly by the CDU governing Christian Democrat Coalition as well as the opposition SPD Social Democrats and Greens.
Joachim Gauck takes the place of Christian Wulff, who resigned from the largely ceremonial post of German president after being hit by scandal in February. (jb)
