Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski begins a two-day visit to Berlin today where he will be setting out Poland's vision of the EU.
Sikorski has told the Rzeczpospolita daily that when making a speech to the German Society for Foreign Policy he will outline Warsaw's view of a balance between national sovereignty and interdependence in the 27-nation bloc.
“Individual nation states should have at least as much autonomy as a state in the USA,” Sikorski said of the balance of interests in what would be a federal relationship between nation states.
Minister Sikorski will be having talks with German heads of diplomacy Guido Westerwelle where they will be looking at ways to tackle the finance crisis in the eurozone.
Sikorski will also be having a meeting with Greek foreign minister Stavros Dimas.
The three politicians will also be discussing preparations for the conference on Afghanistan to be held in Bonn on 5 December, says a statement by Foreign Ministry spokesman Marcin Bosacki.
Poland currently leads the six-month rotating EU presidency, which will end on 31 December. (pg)
