The trip is part of a cultural exchange organized by the educational authorities of the Mazovia Province, the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw and the Museum at the site of the former Nazi extermination camp of Treblinka.

The governor of the Mazovia Province Jacek Kozlowski told Polish Radio that the idea of the programme is to promote Polish-Israeli youth contacts.

As a result, he said, the Israeli visitors will gain insights into present-day Polish realities and will not remember Poland solely as a place where their ancestors perished in the Holocaust.

Young Poles, on their part, are able to learn about the common Polish-Jewish heritage connected with the sizeable Jewish population in Mazovia before World War II.
After the meeting on the school premises, Israeli and Polish youth will go to Treblinka to pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust. (mk)
