Pop star Madonna told a court in Southwark, London, yesterday that she feared for the safety of herself and children after a delusional fan from Poland was found in her bedroom.

Thirty year-old Grzegorz Matlok broke into the star's 10 million pound house in London in March, took a can of Red Bull from her fridge and went into her bedroom, before being discovered by a friend of Madonna, who was not in the building.

“I'm sorry. Arrest me,” he said at the time, only to tell police later that he had been invited by Madonna herself to come and see her.

Madonna told the court via a written statement that she had no knowledge of the Pole, who had travelled by coach from Poland to London, and that his presence in her house “distressed and alarmed” her.

“I do not know the defendant,” Madonna said. “I've not had any form of relationship with the defendant nor have I had any form of contact by phone or by email, or by any other way, with the defendant. In particular I've never given the defendant permission to enter the premises or any of my other premises. I feel very alarmed and distressed by the actions of the defendant.”

The visit in March was not the first time he had broken into one of the millionairess's English houses. Last year he broke into the Wiltshire mansion Madonna used to share with ex-husband, film director Guy Ritchie.

Matlok is currently being treated in a psychiatric hospital in England. (pg)
