Poland’s foreign minister visits Libya

Poland’s foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski has arrived in Tripoli - the first foreign politician to visit Libya since the death of Muammar Gaddafi last Thursday.

Minister Sikorski is being accompanied by a group of Polish businessmen from the fuel and construction sectors as well as companies dealing with military consulting and training.

During his several hour stay in Tripoli, Radoslaw Sikorski is holding talks with representatives of the new Libyan authorities, including those responsible for the oil extraction industry, economy, defence and trade as well as NTC head Mustafa Abdel Djalil.

Minister Sikorski is expected to discuss new forms of Polish assistance to Libya, including treatment of wounded soldiers back in Poland and enrolment of Libyan students at Polish universities.

The head of Polish diplomacy is also to invite the National Transitional Council to Warsaw for a meeting devoted to EU cooperation with countries of the Mediterranean region.
