The opening of the embassy marks the end of the provisional diplomatic post in Benghazi, which functioned for two months after relocating there on 7 July.
In July, Poland’s foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski stated that the decision was made to relocate the embassy as “the provisional council based in [Benghazi] is the only credible partner for talks.”
Meanwhile, the ministerial communiqué states that “we hope that the presence of Polish diplomats in Tripoli will help the dynamic development of Polish-Libyan cooperation in new and changed conditions.” (jb)
