"Saint-Sulpice in March, today the Notre Dame Cathedral, a tragedy for religious people, a disaster for world culture and art, a devastating thing to happen probably for everyone," President Andrzej Duda said in a Twitter post.

He was writing after the 856-year-old Notre Dame Cathedral, one of the world's most iconic churches, erupted in flames and was being gutted by an uncontrollable fire in the French capital on Monday evening.

Paris’ historic Saint-Sulpice church briefly caught fire last month, in a blaze that firefighters were able to contain.
