Among those invited to the meeting were the head of the EPP, Manfred Weber, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg and German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen.

Poland’s opposition Civic Platform (PO) and the Polish People’s Party (PSL) are members of the EPP, as is Germany’s governing CDU/CSU alliance.

The meeting in the Polish capital, held in the run-up to European Parliament elections in May, was expected to discuss security, energy and environmental issues.

Meanwhile, NATO chief Stoltenberg was set to hold talks with President Andrzej Duda during a two-day visit to Poland starting on Thursday.
