Pence was to be accompanied by Polish President Andrzej Duda on his trip to the site of the former death camp in southern Poland.

The trip comes a day after the end of an international conference in Warsaw on the Middle East.

Pence, foreign ministers and senior officials from some 60 nations met in Warsaw on Wednesday and Thursday to discuss issues such as missile proliferation, energy security, emerging cyber-based threats, counterterrorism, migration crises and humanitarian aid.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Pence and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday together visited Warsaw’s Museum of the History of Polish Jews.

They also laid wreaths at a monument in the Polish capital to honour Jews who in 1943 took up arms in an uprising against Poland’s Nazi German invaders.
