In response to Oslo’s move, the Norwegian consul in Warsaw has been given a week to leave Poland, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency has reported.

The Polish foreign ministry’s website said on Monday that the Norwegian authorities “sent a note declaring Polish Consul in Norway Sławomir Kowalski to be persona non grata.”

Kowalski is known for his conflict with Norway's Barnevernet child protection service over the rights of Polish children, Poland’s PAP news agency has previously reported.

He has helped 150 Polish families who faced the loss of custody of their children in Norway under decisions issued by the Barnevernet, according to the news agency.

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs called allegations by Norway against Kowalski “unfounded”.

The ministry added that it was “satisfied with Consul Sławomir Kowalski's work, especially with regard to his commitment to defending the interests of Polish families.”
