Speaking after the gathering in Bratislava, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said the V4 countries were "the most important trade partner for Germany, and significantly more important than, for example, France or the United States or China.”

He added: "This shows what dynamism there is, what strength there is here in the countries of the Visegrad Group.”

The four-nation Visegrad Group (V4) is a regional cooperation platform that brings together Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Morawiecki said leaders at Thursday’s meeting in the Slovak capital also discussed relations between the European Union and the United States.

“Both the EU and the United States are a pillar of peace, a pillar of democracy,” he added.
