Entitled Armoured Wings, the exhibition honours soldiers from the Polish 1st Armoured Division led by Gen. Stanisław Maczek who liberated cities across Belgium from German occupation during World War II, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.

Poland’s Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz was expected to be among those at the exhibition’s launch in the Belgian capital on Monday, alongside a group of veterans and the head of the Warsaw-based Office for War Veterans and Victims of Oppression, Jan Józef Kasprzyk.

Kasprzyk has told the IAR news agency that the multimedia exhibition aims to depict the wartime victories of Polish troops in Belgium as they helped liberate that country from German oppression 75 years ago.

The exhibition at the Royal Army Museum in Brussels runs until March 29, after which it will travel to other cities in Belgium to reflect the victorious route of Gen. Maczek’s soldiers in 1944, the IAR news agency reported.

The Polish ambassador to Belgium, Artur Orzechowski, has told Polskie Radio that, after its first stop in Brussels, the exhibition will be shown all over Belgium “to show this story here … in the centre of Europe” and bring it closer to people across the continent.

The exhibition features dozens of boards, touchscreens, videos and memorabilia from the days when the Polish soldiers under Gen. Maczek fought to capture Belgian cities from German control in September 1944, according to the IAR news agency.
