After talks with the country’s foreign, environment and health ministers in Baghdad on Sunday, Beata Kempa on Monday visited the town of Khanke in Iraq’s northern Kurdistan region.
In the Kurdish city of Erbil, Kempa was expected to meet the head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani, and the prime minister of the regional government, Masrour Barzani.
During her five-day trip to Iraq, Kempa was aiming to help streamline the relief efforts of Polish NGOs operating in the country and carrying out international aid projects with organisations such as USAID.
Kempa’s trip has also included visits to sites covered by Polish-funded aid projects across Iraqi Kurdistan.
Among other projects, the Polish government has funded 500 makeshift houses in the area and helped build facilities such as doctors' offices, workshops and grocery stores.
