Polish PM talks energy, business, defence with US ambassador

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Thursday during a trip to New York that he had talked to the US ambassador to Poland about energy, defence and bilateral business ties.

Morawiecki was in New York on a one-day visit aiming to drum up trade.
The Polish prime minister said he had held “very positive” talks with Georgette Mosbacher, who recently took over as the US ambassador to Warsaw.
"We also talked about military matters, or the presence of American soldiers (in Poland). I thanked the ambassador for the fact that three-four years ago there were only 250-300 NATO soldiers, while today the number is 4,600 and this is growing," Morawiecki added.
In the morning, Morawiecki clanged a bell to open Thursday’s session of the New York Stock Exchange.
He was later expected to take part in a conference entitled "Poland, the Can-Do Nation."
'Economic bridges'
Ahead of Morawiecki’s trip, Investment and Development Minister Jerzy Kwieciński said that the premier could help find new business partners and investors for Poland.
The visit would be a chance “to build economic bridges between Poland and the United States,” said Kwieciński, as quoted by public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.
“We need such partners to sell our products there, also to bring in technologies that are not available in Poland, but also to learn from Americans how to build an innovative economy, because this is the best model in the world," added Kwieciński.
